Optiwise - a hundred percent graphical web-based configurator implemented using the latest J2EE specification allows for the configuration of complex engineering products with multi-level views and analysis. The underlying J2EE platform provides a variety of ways to configure the Optiwise architecture, depending on things as client types required, level of access required to data sources, and other considerations. The distributed, transactional, secure and portable business components of Optiwise is build based on the industry accepted Enterprise Java Beans architecture. This business component model was chosen for full scalability for hundreds of concurrent users. Business servers can be dynamically clustered. Adding additional power is as simple as installing and starting a new server. The efficient middleware solution developed will manage transactions, security, concurrency, object life cycles, resource pooling, threading, persistence, etc.
Many enterprise systems rely on secure, reliable messaging systems for publish-subscribe and broadcast services. JMS(Java Messageing Service) provides an interface to these technologies. J2EE requires that the API definitions be included with any J2EE-compliant server product, but does not require an actual implementation.
JNDI or Java Naming and Directory Interface provides a transparent Java interface to various naming and directory services, including LDAP, NDS, DNS and NIS(YP).
ULC or Ultra Light Client adds rich client functionality to the thin client J2EE applications. It is the missing puzzle piece for a homogeneous, server-side J2EE architecture that enables mix & match of HTML GUIs and rich GUIs.The client features strong graphical capabilities, which include direct manipulation such as diagram editing. The extensibility of the ultra thin client design allows OptiwiseTM to provide very demanding graphical interfaces, with fast response times. This is in contrast to HTML based applications, which have very limited user interface capabilities.
XML Adapter Technology
Optiwise supports a general XML DTD for product definition import and export. In addition, Optiwise provides a flexible adapter architecture to interface with particular external system versions. Adapters are able to communicate directly with a legacy system. They also help to graphically map the import/export equivalencies between the legacy system and Optiwise.
Optiwise Data Security
With worldwide intra-company networks, firewalls between sites and departments often create an obstacle for network applications. Unlimited application access from all sites of a company, without risking the security, is often only possible with HTTP tunneling. HTTP is the standard protocol used when a web-browser talks to a web-server. OptiwiseTM can wrap the communication between its client and presentation inside HTTP. Also the communication between presentation server and business server can be wrapped in HTTP, yet still providing the same functionality. Since OptiwiseTM provides a configurable HTTP tunneling, it can be turned off if it is not needed.
Furthermore OptiwiseTM provides support for tunneling through a combination of HTTP and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) as well as through the CORBA transport protocol IIOP.
For maximum security OptiwiseTM supports encryption of transported data via SSL as a configurable feature. Large companies typically have proprietary company wide access control systems, which also allow the administration on domain specific roles as user groups. OptiwiseTM allows to plug in such customer specific authorization services if required. Also using authentication provided by the operating system is possible.
